Spring Game - Scarlet Plays Gray
Big Ten School Review
The co-founders of CletusFest have attended football games at every Big Ten Stadium.
Although each school visit includes great memories, we thought it would be helpful for Buckeye
fans to know what they were getting themselves into when considering a Big Ten road trip. Our
Rating is based on a Five Point Scale (5 being best):
Overall Rating: ****
Ohio Stadium
As much as we hate to admit it, Ohio Stadium can often be Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. Buckeye fans are definitely a "big game" crowd, sitting on their hands for games that don't have Big Ten or National prominence. On its best days, the Horseshoe roars so loud that you can get a headache from outside the stadium walls. Regardless of the noise factor, Ohio Stadium has lots of tradition and plenty of cheers throughout the game. Add to that one of the most beautiful and historic stadiums in the country, and you have a SHRINE for college football.
Fans
Walking around Ohio State always provides a lot of interesting stories. Whether it be the raucous sights of Heineygate or the impressive food and beverage selections of tailgaters, the Buckeye fans are a great group of people. They are knowledgeable about football, and are all about having a good time on Saturdays. Opponent fans will know they are in enemy territory, but most reactions will be friendly torts followed by a handshake.
Tailgating/Parking
Visitor parking is available all around campus. The closest tailgate parking lot is the Fawcett Center, which is located on Olentangy River Road (near Lane Avenue). Checkout osuparkingwebsite for more information. If you would rather park and enjoy the parties and tailgates of OSU fans, we would recommend finding a parking spot on Neil Avenue (or one of its side streets). Residents often sell spots for $5-20 per vehicle. From there, you have a multitude of choices: Heineygate, CD-101, Blitz Party, or hang out at the famous Varsity Club. Another possibility would be to befriend a Buckeye. Most Buckeyes fan are more than happy to share a brew and a burger with a fellow football fan.
Nightlife/City Atmosphere
Columbus is one of the midwest's best kept secrets. There are restaurants galore, and range from expensive steak houses to tasty local restaurants. There are lots of night clubs too. We would recommend the Arena or Brewery Districts. Both areas are downtown, and give visitors an awesome
